Welcome to our July 2008 newsletter...
|

Dear reader,
Welcome to our July newsletter! It's been another busy month behind the
scenes of the OHC, although it's not felt the same with Anna away volunteering
in Indonesia. But, I'm sure you'll be pleased to hear she is having a fantastic
time, and having just spoken to her a few hours ago, she was relaying stories
of teaching EFT to a group of school children on a remote island in the middle
of nowhere, trying to avoid a rather sinister leaf that turned out to be moving
in inappropriate ways towards her!
This month sees the launch of our
specialist website on The 90 Day Programme www.The90DayProgramme.co.uk in
response to increasing questions about our world leading psychology based
course. We are also pleased to be
announcing that we are running a 90 Day Programme in Bristol in September,
which prior to even publically announcing is already 2/3 full, so if you are
interested, please do e-mail caroline@TheOptimumHealthClinic.com
ASAP.
This month also sees Lois (our webdesigner)
and Anna (Director of Psychology, fresh back from Indonesia) jumping out of a
plane to raise funds to help set up our new charity, The Centre for the Development
of Integrative Health. However, at this
point we have still only raised enough money for one parachute. So, I'd be very grateful for some more
donations, otherwise in a few weeks I'm going to be making some very tough
choices of who I decide to save from the effects of gravity - kind of like X
Factor with a twist... mind you, they do both sing quite well! Information on the charity and donating is
available at www.FreedomFromME.co.uk/cdih
(and we are continuing the offer of a free copy of Learn to Relax or The Sleep
Inducer for all donations of £20 or more).
Joking aside, please do support them, it's a very important cause.
Have a great
month,
Love and warmth,
Alex and the
Directors

| This month on Secrets to Recovery - Message from Lois
|
This last month's Secrets to Recovery was a really exciting one, with firstly Alex and Catherine Buchan doing a very powerful call around M.E. and dealing with others. Check out this month's free clip and our feature article for more on this.
This was followed by Alex and Ashley Meyer doing a first of a kind Secrets call where they used EFT for working with the Achiever subtype. Please do visit www.SecretsToRecovery.com for information on joining the group and downloading these calls instantly.
Coming up in July we have the following calls:
July 1st 2008 7:00pm - Interview with Joy Knight Joy suffered from M.E. for five years, and just a year ago
she felt like her life was basically over. In the last year
she has made extraordinary progress to the point she has chucked
out her wheelchair, is looking to buy a bicycle, and her son
is trying to convince her to go bungee jumping!
Key in Joy's recovery was the integration of both psychology
and nutrition, and Joy will be talking about what turned things
around, the nutrition protocols that made all the difference,
and sharing with us her new found passion for living. Joy also
provides proof that even the "older generation" can
make a full recovery from M.E. as she is now 66 and feeling
younger than she has done in years.
July 22nd 2008 - M.E. as a path of spiritual growth Many
people recovering from M.E. find that as part of their healing
process, they find themselves asking life's big questions,
and often finding some kind of answers for these can be a catalyst
for healing and change. In Alex's own recovery, developing
his own spiritual path was a major factor, and continues to
be in his own personal life and the growth and development
of the clinic.
In this call, Alex will be talking about spirituality in the
context of M.E., sharing some of the insights that were really
key for him, along with introducing some new concepts that
are part of a new direction for some of his work (including
material for a new book he is currently researching). This
call is set to be fascinating, inspirational, (possibly at
times also controversial!), and will hopefully provide some
clarity in this immensely important area.
And, look out for next month's newsletter where I'll be sharing the calls we have coming up in August, including a call with live meditations for M.E.!

The Importance of Support - Alex Howard
|
Witnessing the extraordinary support and
nurturing between delegates at a recent 90 Day Programme earlier this year, I was
reminded of the immense power of feeling the support and holding of
others. It took me back to my own
journey with M.E. and the huge difference it made when I met my first long-term
girlfriend, who also was in recovery from M.E., Catherine (www.catherinebuchan.com - now author
of "22 Boyfriends to Happiness"). To be
sharing my journey with someone who had similar values, a total commitment to
doing whatever it took to get well and find a way out, was invaluable in
building my own resolve and determination to create answers.
The fact that Catherine and I were in a
relationship together wasn't the most important thing (we were at universities
200 miles apart most of the time); it was having someone in my life that really
understood. The same is true in my life
now. I am incredibly fortunate with the
success that The Optimum Health Clinic has achieved (just one statistic I
personally find amazing is the fact we have patients in over 20 countries
around the world), and the constant e-mails and letters of support I receive
are deeply touching, but I can categorically say that without the support of
the amazing team I work with (who are like my family) and my two best friends,
Anna and Niki, this all would just not have happened.
Something we work very hard at doing as a
clinic is providing supportive environments with a team of
inspirational and supportive practitioners, and also through the communities
that have developed around The 90 Day Programme, professional training courses,
and Secrets to Recovery. And, we are in
the stages of trialling a new website we will be rolling out through this newsletter
in a couple of months which will be a social networking site for OHC
patients/students etc.
But, here is the point I want to make in
this newsletter... if you are surrounded by people that don't believe you are
even ill, or believe that you working on yourself is a sign of your madness, or
actually just don't believe you can get better... you don't have to put up with
that. I understand the practicalities of
families (if you've read my book, you KNOW I understand that), but you deserve
to also have people in your life with a similar mindset. Those relationships take time to find,
cultivate and invest in, but personally I can't think of many things more
important on your path to recovery.
Someone once said, "The quality of your
life is directly proportionate to the quality of the people you spend time
with." And, if the person you are
spending most of your time with is yourself, I recommend working on yourself -
it makes it easier!
We'll be letting you know about our social
networking site when it goes live in September, and in the meantime please do
check out this month's free clip from Secrets to Recovery where I was chatting
with Catherine about the importance of support on our journeys and how you
can cultivate the same.
And, without intending to sound like a bad
Oscar speech, huge hugs and love to all the people that support me in my
life. None of this would be happening
without you.
