1. I thought
Candida caused M.E./C.F.S./F.M., but I have been on anti-Candida
treatment for many years and am still no better – what do
you do to treat this that is different from other clinics?
We feel quite strongly about this area of M.E./C.F.S./F.M. partly
due to certain misconceptions amongst some nutritionists that these
conditions are caused by Candida alone. This is simply not true,
as scientific research and clinical experience is increasingly proving.
It can be an important area for treatment, but not the only
area. Chronic Candida is quite often simply a symptom of other problems
such as heavy metal toxicity, immune dysfunction and mitochondrial
malfunction. Furthermore, we find that treating these kinds of underlying
imbalances in addition, is key in helping patients recover.

2. I can’t tolerate
many supplements and I have multiple food intolerances – how can
you help me?
This is often a problem in M.E./C.F.S./F.M. patients, and is a major
concern to any clinic or practitioner who treats a significant number
of patients. With the right support and guidance, we often find that
patients starting on very low dosages of supplements, over time can
often develop a tolerance, by gradually increasing their dosages.
Identifying specific nutrient and food intolerances, heavy metal
toxicity and lymph and liver congestion and clearing those first,
is often the key factor to reducing supplement intolerances.
Moreover, we have found work on the psychology side of the clinic
to often be very effective to correct underlying stress patterns
that can also be triggering intolerances and allergies.

3. I have heavy
metal toxicity (mercury, nickel etc); can you help?
Detoxing from heavy metals, as well as from a whole range of pesticides
and other toxic chemicals, is an integral part of our treatment protocol
at the clinic. We have extensive experience testing and treating
these imbalances, and find that the removal of these kinds of toxins
appears to be a major factor contributing to the improvement and
recovery of many patients.

4. I am on a lot
of medication prescribed by a GP – can you still help me?
As qualified nutritionists (with specialist experience in M.E./C.F.S./F.M.),
we are trained to understand all possible drug-nutrient interactions,
and can work with you to create a customised programme to treat your
condition, whilst on drugs for other health problems, such as heart
disease, diabetes, arthritis and osteoporosis. It is also possible
to explore natural treatment protocols for these illnesses, in addition
to your M.E./C.F.S./F.M., with permission and cooperation from your
local G.P.

5. I have Fibromyalgia
(F.M.) or Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS); can you help me?
Yes, many of our patients have F.M. or M.C.S. in addition to M.E.,
so this forms an integral part of our clinic protocol.

6. How do the consultations
actually work and what do they cost?
A consultation with one of our clinical nutritionists costs £90 per
hour. There is an initial consultation of one hour and thirty minutes,
and follow ups are usually one hour long. The initial consultation
takes the following format: firstly your practitioner will discuss
the intricacies of your case in great detail, and following this,
advice will then be given as to what is likely to be causing your
symptoms. Secondly, you are then given an overview of the food and
dietary recommendations, and started on a basic supplement programme
(or will have your current regime updated to the latest protocols),
and finally you will be advised of any tests that may be appropriate.
Patients are given a great deal of support at the initial consultation
to help make any changes recommended.
After the initial consultation there is usually one follow up within
five weeks – this is usually to cover any test results that have
come back, and to monitor supplement and dietary changes that have
been implemented. Following this, most nutrition consultations are
every 6-8 weeks. Follow up consultations cover any problems the patients
may have encountered with supplements, dietary changes, or other
lifestyle recommendations. Follow ups also keep the patient moving
to ensure we are treating all areas we have identified that may need
addressing.

7. What do the
supplements cost?
The cost of supplements varies. Patients receive supplement recommendation
sheets with information about where they can order the supplements
for themselves. The clinic policy is to recommend the most effective
supplement to do a particular job, but all recommendations also
take into account the patient’s financial and practical limitations;
for example budget available per month, and the ability to swallow
capsules.

8. What does your
treatment involve?
The practitioners in the clinic are nutritionists, not doctors, so
we do not use or prescribe any drug therapy at the clinic. We do
not however disapprove of the use of pharmaceuticals by patients,
where they are necessary or helpful, and are prescribed by a qualified
medical professional.
Our treatments mainly include nutritional supplements, some use
of herbs, and advice on food and diet. Our therapies also include
non-nutritional forms of advice, including far infra red sauna therapy
and dry skin brushing. We also organise any test that we deem appropriate
for successful treatment of the patient. These include everything
from stool, saliva, sweat, blood, fat and hair tests carried out
in numerous labs here in the UK and the US.
