PATIENT STORIES - WRITTEN

"Hi Anna, Remember Me?  Well if you knew me to speak to face to face you certainly wouldn't recognise me I have come on sooooo well even from when we last spoke in January.  I barely use my wheelchair..." Click here to read more

"I guess my life didn’t particularly stand out from anyone else’s. I was just an average teenager gliding through life as you do. I loved anything to do with martial arts and fitness. Although as a child I had always wanted to go into the film industry, but as I got older I was told that was too unrealistic; “not a proper job”. Plus my passion for sport and martial arts was growing (I was set to go on a trip to a place called the Shaolin Temple in China to train with the monks there), so that’s what I decided I wanted to do with my life. P.E was my favourite subject; anything that wasn’t physical bored me. I loved stories of inspiration, pioneers and against-the-odds-books such as Nelson Mandela and Christopher Reeve, but I never thought anything like that would happen to me, that happened to other people. Not you or I, other people. I guess they are simply a stronger breed of people that you only hear about and see on TV. Surely nothing like that would ever happen to me?" Click to read more

"Due to a major M.E relapse I had in September 2003 (which came back with a vengeance may I add!) I lost all faith, hope, health and happiness from my life. Bed bound, unable to walk to the toilet and back without practically collapsing, I thought my life was over once again.  Not only was I physically ill my mental health deteriorated just as much, the anxiety over everything was paralysing, the thought of being out of my bed was like a life sentence, just as it was when I was in bed..." "I went to Alex’s clinic for help with recovering from M.E. The main part of my session involved using techniques Alex had developed for working with M.E., which were mentioned in his book Alex’s book ‘WHY ME?’. Going through this process I realised how much tension I had been creating for myself through my thought processes and how this had contributed to my fatigue. Releasing the tension during the session was an emotional experience but an astonishingly liberating one..." Click to read more

"M.E has been a personal journey, and without it I would have carried on existing whilst never truly reaching my optimum paradise. How many people are given an opportunity in life to step back, take time to realise if things aren't working re-evaluate and change them?" Click to read more

"I became ill in November 2003, but for the few years before that I hadn’t been feeling “quite right”. I had often been ill with colds and flus, and had found that my energy was often low. However, it wasn’t until November of that year that I finally crashed. After a particularly heavy birthday celebration I caught a virus that didn’t want to go away..." Click to read more

Emma Tierney (a current patient)

"I had been suffering from M.E for five years and had tried numerous different things to get me better including changing my nutrition, a course of cognitive behavioural therapy, and had also spent lots of time doing yoga and positive affirmations. But even though these things had helped to a certain extent, I was still very ill and felt lost, alone, and feared I would never recover. I came across Alex’s book; ‘Why ME?’ at a time when I was virtually housebound and even watching TV was a major struggle..." Click to read more

"My experience with ME began suddenly in August 2004, appearing virtually overnight and without warning changing my life instantly. Initially I was suffering from glandular fever, which I was told would pass with rest, it didn’t and two months on I was a lot worse and was eventually told that I had an illness that could stay with me for life. This news was devastating to me as I was only 29 and had an extremely physical life..." Click to read more

"I became ill suddenly in November 2004 – up until then I had been a busy mother of two boys – then aged 2 and 5 – and also worked as a primary-school teacher. Looking back, I can see that there were signs before I crashed, I used to be so exhausted after work that I literally could not speak, and I seemed to catch every virus going. But I didn’t pay too much attention, under the false notion that I just had to keep going under any circumstance..." Click to read more

"Treatment at the clinic has been the best thing I have ever done for my health. I began working with Anna at the clinic -mostly via phone- in 2005, after six years of M.E and depression... " Click to read more

Anonymous 2

"I became severely ill with M.E / CFS in June 2002, following a viral infection. During the following 3 years I spent a lot of time unable to get out of bed, nearly all of it housebound, requiring a stick to walk, unable to think clearly, no chance of working or having even a basic social life and in constant mostly body-wide pain..." "I’ve had ME, with varying levels of energy, since 1996 and tried Homeopathy, Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs, Reiki and other forms of Healing, with varying success.

At the beginning of 2003, I picked up and read Alex Howard’s’ book – Why M.E? Although I’d read several things in the past, and am an ‘active’ (if you can be active with ME!) member of our local support group, this book really clicked – my initial experiences of ME were very similar to Alex’s and his ideas made sense to me and his motivation to read as many books as possible about ME and associated areas, was something I could do too, as brain fog was never a major symptom of mine..."
